Colorado River Resort, Columbus, Texas

We arrived by noon on Thursday, November 9th.  A beautiful park.

The following day each couple went off in separate directions.   Bill and I went into Historic Columbus.  First find was the largest live oak in Texas. At over 500 years old, 70 feet tall, a 329 inch waist and a crown spread of over 111 feet, it's massive.

Backtracking we headed into town and parked across from the Courthouse.

In the same town square is the Confederate Memorial dedicated in memory of all war veterans from Colorado County.

Directly behind the Courthouse is the Stafford Opera House.  Built in 1893 and now the only flat-floored opera house in Texas.  It occupies the second floor.  It was here we began our self drive audio tour of Historic Columbus. Using your car and radio you go to designated sites, dial in the FM channel and hear the history of the building.

This is one of my favorites.  The carriage step is alive and well.

The builder and original owner, Townsend, was a state representative and senator and sponsered the bill to buy the Alamo.

The Old Brick Store.
Oldest in Columbus.
Built 1850.

Columbus, Texas.  A friendly and fun town, a great park and a fire at night with friends.  Life is great.

Thanks for visiting.

Susan
