Galveston oh Galveston

Glen Campbell
GALVESTON

"Galveston, oh, Galveston,
I still hear your seawinds blowing;
I still see her dark eyes glowing.
She was twenty one, when I left Galveston.

A made up story about a soldier in the Spanish-American war and a girl left behind.

We pulled into our sites at Palms RV.  Conveniently located 7 miles from NASA and 20 miles north of Galveston.

Drove down to Galveston and after quieting our grumbling tummies at Golden Corral we drove along the waterfront towards Holiday Pier and the famous Strand.

Once the largest city and port in Texas, that status changed after the 1900 hurricane that killed 8000 and nearly flattened the town.  A catagory 4 storm with 145 mph winds.  Houston inherited the status and holds it today.  In fact Galveston, and the other barrier islands are in grave danger.  They're sinking.

Galveston, The Wall Street of the south.

Then.

Now.

Elegant outdoor dining and carousing.

Off the bucket list.  Another fun and charming beach town with lots of history that I won't go into.  SPRING BREAK,  can't imagine the masses of young.

Thanks for visiting.

Susan
