Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs

Just a few miles south of Monument is the USAFA, where we spent the day. Gail, retired Air Force, was able to get us all on base for our self-guided tour of the grounds, excluding the cadets area.

Today at 11:30 we were privileged to view a two class of approximately 2000 cadets gather in formation for a parade below the Chapel, seen below.

The Cadet Chapel at the Air Force Academy provides multiple faith services for 4000 cadets.

It was built in 1962.

The Chapel is stunningly beautiful.

The ceiling is amazing, as well as the side walls.

Outside and below are the cadet grounds and parade area.  To our left, we believe are the second year cadets.  We base this solely on their boisterous yells during formation.

What we believe is the most recent class is on our right, again based on their less boisterous yells..

Parading off to lunch.

I hope someone viewing this can explain what the odd costume with gold wings signifies.

Beautiful building surround the Chapel.

Such a feeling of pride in our youth and their display of patriotism and service to our country.  What a wonderful day we had.  Makes you so proud to be an American.

More great adventures just down the road.  Come back eh?
Susan
